SUMMARY

Small Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall right at the Texas-Louisiana line with 55 mph winds. Because it’s a small one, it should dissipate rapidly. The effect on weather here has been interesting. For the last few days, persistent southeasterly winds have laid down a morning line of showers in Lakes Borgne and Ponchartrain that move to the NW into Western St. Tammany. Then, early afternoon storms form near Pearl River and Picayune and also move NW paralleling the earlier line All this bypasses Slidell. With Edouard inland , the flow will gradually turn more southerly breaking this trend by Thursday.

Our next big weather maker is a tropical wave in Florida scheduled to arrive late Thursday or early Friday. You can clearly see the extent of the storms on the right edge of this IR satellite image as Mr. Ed exits stage left. I’d rate shower chances at 80% on Friday and many of us will get an inch.

FORECAST DISCUSSION

The Foreca graphic clearly shows the late Thursday and Friday peak. Friday’s highs will be held down into the mid 80s by all the cloud cover. and maybe if we’re lucky, upper 80s on Saturday as well. Saturday will feature showers and storms to our west in the Hammond, Baton Rouge, and River Parishes area. This could be a factor for the LSU football opener.where it could serve to slow down the fast Lane. I’ll give you an update on Thursday.

Saturday, Sunday, and early Monday should feature fewer showers. There will be an uptick in showers and storms Monday - Wednesday afternoon with 50-60% chances, but a bit lower in locations 30 miles or more inland.

LONG-RANGE RAMBLINGS

Nothing tropical in the next week, probably 10 days. Sept. 11 is official half-time for hurricane season. If we were to see anything, it would form later in the month and it would be near Bermuda or perhaps right along the Gulf Coast like the last one.

No cold front is in sight, but near 90 highs will gradually become more common than the mid 90s just because the length of each day is becoming less. I also expect to see the rainfall we get to be closer to the coast and not march as far inland as the summer. Other than that, I don’t have much long range wisdom and most of the long-range experts I follow are more concerned about forecasting winter.

ALABAMA & NW FL BEACHES

Foreca graphic for Pensacola Beach shows not much new or different. Nice beach weather tomorrow will give way to widespread showers and storms late Thursday through Saturday because of that same wave that will impact us. After a few less storms on Sunday, expect 50-60% shower chances Monday - Wednesday.
