Hot Week, Wet Sunday, then Cool

SUMMARY

Early April will act more like March with a large temperature swing pivoting around a wet Sunday. Temperatures will jump to the 85-90 range from tomorrow (Wednesday) through Saturday with early summer levels of humidity. Then, a slow moving front has the potential to dump some significant rain on Sunday, perhaps lingering into Monday. Then, colder than normal weather arrives. But, the exact weather you experience depends on where you live, so read on for the details.

Also, at the end, could you take a brief survey. I’d like to know a bit about you, what general area you live in, and any additional weather needs that you have. I’ll be doing this every few weeks to stay in touch.

AT-A-GLANCE: SLIDELL

FORECAST DISCUSSION

Here’s my key points:

1) The Foreca graph is valid for the airport in Slidell, but with a strong sea breeze, temperatures along the Lake or Sound, or even a mile or two inland, will be a few degrees cooler AND may seem even cooler than that. On the other hand, if you are inland, say in Folsom, Amite, or Baton Rouge, you might see 90 with a bit less wind.

2) Not shown is the water level. WIth spring tides and a strong south wind 16-18 mph sustained with gusts to 30 Tuesday-Saturday, water will pile into the shoreline. Expect a surge of 3 feet above tide level which will already be high. Some low lying roads will be closed and tie your boat up accordingly. This should not cause a problem with water getting into houses but don’t plan on a stroll along the Mandeville lakefront.

3) It’s too early to say exactly how the showers and storms will evolve on Sunday. However, it looks like several rounds are likely anytime from 1 AM until evening.

4) Monday is the big question mark. American model moves precip. out, European lingers the clouds and lighter showers. I vote European.

5) Then…almost too cool weather arrives.

LONG-RANGE RAMBLINGS

Expect,a good week to ten days of cooler than normal temperatures starting next Monday. With NW flow aloft, expect very little, if any precipitation. Again, not what you want for an Easter trip to the beach or a pool party but good news if you want a more prolonged spring. Whether we will need to water depends on how much rain we get this Sunday, but right now I’d say we’ll get the rain we need.
