Lovely Spring for next Ten Days

SUMMARY
Me with writer’s block? Rarely, but there’s surprising little to write about as lovely spring weather will settle in over the next ten days. How perfect? Pretty close, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s and 60s with a lot of sun through early next week, then a mix of clouds and sun. Only a few days will feature showers. All those lows, significant fronts, and upper air troughs that I usually gloat over will pretty much stay to our north.
A few things I can comment on: Topic one is this morning’s lows. How many of you went to sleep last night, looked at the thermometer which read 46 or 48 and said, “I doubt it will get below freezing” Ha! 26 this morning at Slidell’s airport while I had 32 in my grove after a high of 58. That’s a wild ride. With bone dry air, clear skies, and light winds, yesterday was our yearly tribute to Arizona weather. P.S. All my citrus flowers and buds survived thanks to frost blankets and heat lamps over soaked soil.
Topic two: Wildfires, like the type that closed down I-12 for a few hours on Sunday. I never thought I’d write about this here. The ground is very dry, so expect the NWS to issue red flag warnings anytime the winds get up until we get a good soaking rain. That means no outdoor burning. Tomorrow afternoon will feature a warm 15 mph breeze from the SW, so they have issued an elevated fire risk danger. Winds will be less of a factor after that.

FORECAST DISCUSSION
The Foreca graphic looks fine except for next Wednesday’s rain, which is premature. Thursday’s slight chance of very light showers will mostly be inland, well north of I-12/I-10. Friday’s rain will result from a slow moving, weak cold front that will probably clear the Northshore by mid-day, but may stall out in the Biloxi area and south of the Lake in the afternoon. My take is about a 70% chance of showers with a few lucky people getting a half inch. Most of the rest of us will get maybe a few tenths. Probabilities and amounts will be slightly higher in places like Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes plus northern Pearl River County where the showers will probably clear by late morning.
Notice the almost constant high temperatures, but more variation in the lows as humidity moves out after the weak front on Friday. Foreca sees morning fog this weekend, but I will wait and see. Light NE winds are not as favorable as light S or SE winds.
LONG-RANGE RAMBLINGS
Temperatures for the period next Wednesday March 4 through Sunday March 8 should feature highs in the upper 70s trending towards the low 80s. Lows should be in the 60s. A chance of showers will increase each day from Thursday through Saturday. It’s not that I’m expecting a deluge, but we could see several small systems and the exact timing of which is not certain at this point.
