Numerous storms Thurs-Saturday

Running late today, so this will be quick. IR satellite imagery shows more storms over Louisiana than the Florida Panhandle, so most of us will be in for a break in the storms tomorrow with rain chances running 30% (near the Lake & Sound plus Southshore), even less inland. However, all signs continue to point to a wet Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with numerous storms (see last newsletter for explanation). Though most of us have had the rain, some inland areas of Mississippi north of I-10 and east of I-59 have had much less and could use more. Something tells me they’ll get in on the action this time. .

The Foreca graphic highlights some more reasonable high temperatures in the 80s with the storms late Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Many areas could get an inch or two. After that, we’ll be back to more typical scattered storms for Monday and Tuesday with highs near 90. As a cold front approaches us later next week, shower and storm chances increase again.

Long-range models insist on a pattern change that will put a cold front into the South late next week and that weekend (18-20th). That seems reasonable, but its not clear whether it will just stall in our area giving us more 85 degree, humid weather with storms or if it will eventually clear out and give us some nicer, mostly sunny weather with say lows in the upper 60s and highs low-mid 80s.

In the tropics, nothing happening in the next week. The last time we’ve gone this long without a hurricane in the Gulf or Atlantic has been 1942! (I’ve always viewed that season as the grace of God sparing us from any concerns during a critical war year). Anything that may form in another 10 days in the far Eastern Atlantic wont’ make it into the Caribbean. However, we might have to watch for a development in the Gulf if that strong front stalls after the 20th.
