Quick Saturday Update

SUMMARY
The models have come into better agreement concerning the twin storms off the East Coast and their impact on the weather here along the Gulf Coast. Hurricane Humberto will exert its pull on future Hurricane Imelda causing it to stall and reverse course as it approaches South Carolina. This ECMWF model forecast for Tuesday morning shows the two storms looking like two eggs in a frying pan. I’ve never seen anything quite like this off the East Coast.

There still could be some impacts along the South Carolina coast due to surge and heavy rains, but it won’t nearly be as widespread as if it made landfall and marched inland. Much depends on when and where Imelda stalls and reverses itself. Most models take Imelda out to sea after it reverses course for 100 miles. Here’s the forecast for the Northshore and Coastal Mississippi:

FORECAST DISCUSSION
The Foreca graphic looks good. High temperatures will recover quickly hitting 90 through mid week, but the “feel good” morning lows and lower humidity will be slower to increase. By Thursday, highs will come down into the mid 80s and humidity will go up as some Atlantic air moves around Imelda and into our area. Note the chance of rain for next weekend which we will be looking at more carefully in tomorrow’s more extensive letter..
