Sun returns by Monday

SUMMARY
What a soaker! I’ve had almost 3” since midnight, some Northshore locations have had almost 5”, and another 0.5-1.5” is expected overnight. Rain should taper off anytime from about 10 PM near Hammond to about 4 AM near Biloxi.
The NWS forecast map for noon tomorrow shows that the heaviest rain (dark green) associated with a weak Gulf low near Tallahassee will be well east of us. However, another low pressure area is hanging back off the Mexican Coast. So, tomorrow will be a similar dreary, raw one with cloudy skies, and temperatures staying in the 50s. Break out that favorite soup, chili, or gumbo. Unlike today, it won’t be a constant rain with only a 40% chance of a brief shower wetting the ground.

Saturday should again see cloudy skies with similar temperatures and a good chance of a few bands of showers moving through (courtesy of that Mexican Low which traverse the Gulf south of us). Again, this won’t be an all-day affair, amounts will be light, and the threat could be over by mid-afternoon. Sunday will be much better with partly cloudy skies by afternoon and temperatures reaching the upper 60s.
After that, a dry and sunny week with a few cold days followed by some seasonably warm ones.

FORECAST DISCUSSION
The Foreca graphic shows that the heaviest rain will happen tonight followed by much light amounts on Saturday. Again, we’ll be socked in with dreary, cool weather through Sunday morning, but the sun will probably peek out between the clouds Sunday afternoon and certainly on Monday.
After Sunday’s high in the upper 60s, expect a few cold and sunny days Monday and Tuesday. Patchy frost seems likely Tuesday morning in most suburban and rural areas. Then, the sunny weather persists with a warm up — highs reaching the mid to upper 60s later in the week. Average high this time of year is about 64. Notice the fog symbol for Wednesday morning. I’m not sure that it will happen on Wednesday, but it seems likely that we’ll get at least one foggy morn sometime late next week or the following weekend.
LONG-RANGE RAMBLINGS
Expect warmer weather with partly cloudy skies for next Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday Dec. 13. Highs could reach the low to mid 70s that Saturday with lows in the 50s. Break out the “Tropical Heatwave” song from “Grumpy Old Men”.
Then, another cold front will move for Sunday Dec. 14 with lows plunging into the 30s and highs in the 50s. Followed by another warm up starting about Tuesday Dec. 16, followed by another cold front….. You get the idea: Flu weather because of all these ups and downs. Even still, I don’t see any significant freeze in the next two weeks. Long-range gurus say that if it’s going to happen, it will happen in late December or early January.
