Thurs. Apr. 3 - Timing Weekend's Rain

SUMMARY

Big change in the weather coming Sunday when we will say good bye to the windy, humid weather with a front that will bring thunderstorms. Then, a really nice cool week begins on Monday. The big question concerns the timing of the rainfall where I have some disagreements with the Foreca graphic — so read on for the details. The good news for any Saturday evening plans is that you should be able to squeeze them in between any pesky afternoon showers and the bigger storms after midnight. Do not see this as a severe weather or flood maker.

FORECAST DISCUSSION

Here’s my key points:

1) Winds will keep the water levels up in the Lake and Sound through Sunday morning, but they may not seem as bad since the tidal range is coming down. Water will slowly drain out on Sunday.

2) A few pesky light showers will continue here and there, mainly in inland areas on Friday. On Saturday, expect a few more of the in the afternoon with some Northshore inland areas maybe getting a tenth of an inch. For what its worth, I see these showers as being a bit more likely in Mississippi north of the I-10. Ironically, Friday may have more cloud cover than Saturday where we will see a mix of clouds and sun.

3) These afternoon showers should die off by late afternoon giving us a break for Saturday evening activities. The big rain-making storms won’t arrive until after midnight early Sunday morning.

4) Sunday morning will be wet, but showers should taper off in the afternoon. It will seem much quieter with the winds dying down.

5) Monday may see light showers redevelop in the morning hours on the Southshore and coastal Hancock and Harrison counties. They should quickly move out giving everyone a partly cloudy and much cooler, less humid day.

6) Enjoy the below normal weather Tuesday - Friday of next week.

LONG-RANGE RAMBLINGS

Expect the nice weather to continue for the following weekend and beyond, say from April 12-16, but with moderating temperatures. Highs 80-82, lows around 60 with low humidity. Perfect for just about anything. Next chance of rain after this Sunday will be Thursday April 17 or Friday 18. If we only see a half inch this Sunday, we might have to consider watering sometime in this stretch.
