Warm week; back to winter Monday

SUMMARY
In a forecast that is as dry as Prohibition (minus the Moonshiners), well above normal temperatures will prevail through Sunday. Then, a cold front will come through without more than a few sprinkles late Sunday night turning the weather sharply colder with a possible light freeze next Wednesday morning Dec. 31. An upper air ridge in the Desert SW and East Coast troughs give us NW flow aloft causing the dry pattern.

FORECAST DISCUSSION
The Foreca graphic shows the temperatures falling off a cliff Sunday night. Other than the abrupt temperature change, morning fog tomorrow through Friday is he big story. It’s a fine line between having fog with visibility of ¼ to ½ mile, which is drive-able, and 0-0 conditions of super fog. Fortunately, we don’t have many local sources of smoke from fires or industrial plants here on the Northshore that can mix with the fog.
The only other comments that I have concern the low temperatures a week from now. Southshore lows won’t get below 39-40. There will be a lot of wind on Monday (gusts to 25) adding to the wind chill. Almost everyone on the Northshore should be in the 33-35 range next Tuesday morning and there will be more frost and more urban vs. rural temperature differences as well next Wednesday.
LONG-RANGE RAMBLINGS
This will be more of a two-pronged cold spell extending from the 29th into Jan. 3. Still, I’m not expecting extreme temperatures. More specifically,
Thursday Jan. 1 Low 42 High 55 Sunny
Friday Jan. 2 Low 30 High 52 Partly Cloudy
Saturday Jan. 3 Low 42 High 67 Increasing Clouds, Showers late
Sunday Jan. 4 Low 60 High 65 Showers likely
Have a Merry Christmas, everyone. Thanks for all who prayed for me as I had a pacemaker installed yesterday. Have to keep those fronts moving through like clockwork at 60 bpm….
